152 Acres Soil Haire Clay Loam Clones. Musque Field Blend, Clone 4 Planted in 1979
Founded by Larry Hyde in 1979, Hyde Vineyard is widely considered one of California’s most iconic and revered sites. A true pioneer of the Carneros AVA, Larry spent decades experimenting with clonal diversity to create a tapestry of vineyard blocks. His work has made the "Hyde-Wente" and "Hyde-Calera" selections benchmarks for winemakers who prioritize tension, structure, and longevity.
Located in the heart of Carneros, the vineyard sits at a unique convergence of cooling influences. Chilly morning fog from the San Pablo Bay blankets the land, while the afternoon brings brisk winds sweeping in through the Petaluma Gap. This cooling effect ensures a long, slow growing season that preserves vibrant acidity and complex aromatics.
Our specific parcel is a diversified field blend of the Musqué Clone, rooted in heavy Haire Clay Loam soils interlaced with volcanic obsidian and ancient sea beds. This rare combination creates a "steely" style of Chardonnay where you can practically taste the pebbles and stones.
Salty air mixed with native brush—our Hyde Vineyard offering delivers wildly exotic aromatics and a sharp, citrus-cut minerality. It is a wine of intense energy, grippy and flinty on the finish, reminiscent of the great Grand Crus of Chablis. In every glass, you can truly taste the ocean and the ancient mineral legacy of the land.
